Affordable Alternative to the AP Royal Oak

Angular cases, integrated bracelets, and guilloché dials are just some stand-out details of Tissot's new PRX series unveiled in 2021. The PRX is a faithful reinterpretation of the watch design that shaped the 1970s. In fact, the design language of the PRX is based on one of the manufacturer's Seastar variants launched in 1978, which had followed in the footsteps of the iconic models of this time, such as the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus. Both the Royal Oak and Nautilus were the brainchild of legendary watchmaker Gérald Genta.

Within the PRX collection, you'll find three-hand watches that are available with either quartz or automatic movements. There are also a wide range of styles available: in addition to stainless steel versions, you can also buy two-tone PRX timepieces. Dials come in black, blue, green, and silver. As for bands, these watches are paired with either stainless steel bracelets or leather straps. The top model among the three-hand watches has a bezel made of 18-karat rose gold and is equipped with the automatic Powermatic 80.

In the spring of 2022, Tissot launched two PRX chronographs. You can choose between two dial colors: silver and blue. Inside the case, you'll find the automatic Valjoux A05.H31 with a power reserve of 60 hours.

All PRX models have a sapphire crystal, quick-change system for the band, and water-resistance to 100 m (10 bar, 328 ft).

How much does a Tissot PRX cost?

Quartz watches such as the ref. T137.410.11.041.00 with a blue dial are the most affordable models in the collection at around 300 USD each. For just under 600 USD, you can get a PRX model with an automatic movement, such as the ref. T137.407.11.051.00 with a black dial and the Powermatic 80 caliber. Tissot lists their automatic PRX chronographs for 1,750 USD.

PRX Three-Hand Models With Quartz Calibers

Tissot offers five quartz models in the PRX collection. All watches measure 40 mm in diameter and are made of brushed stainless steel. As for the dials, you can choose between black, blue, green, and silver. The hours are marked with narrow baton indices, which, along with the hands, are coated in Super-LumiNova.

The ETA quartz caliber F06.115 ticks away inside the cases and outfits the watches with their date display at 3 o'clock. The end-of-life indicator is a practical function that lets you know when you need to replace the battery.

The ref. T137.410.11.051.00 has a black dial and comes on an integrated, three-piece link stainless steel bracelet with a butterfly clasp. Expect prices for mint-condition models on Chrono24 to come in at around 300 USD. If you're a fan of blue dials, check out the ref. T137.410.11.041.00. This model sells for similar prices.

If you're looking for a particularly elegant timepiece, check out the ref. T137.410.11.031.00. This PRX model sports a silver dial with golden indices and hands. What's more, prices are only a couple of hundred dollars above the other models.

PRX Watches With the Powermatic 80

When it comes to movement types, there are a handful more watches with automatic calibers in the PRX line than there are quartz. At the time of writing, Tissot had eight models on offer. Unlike the quartz models, the automatic timepieces have a see-through caseback that lets you watch the Powermatic 80 at work. As for dial colors, you can choose between blue, black, green, and brown.

The all-round classic in this category is the ref. T137.407.11.041.00. This Tissot watch has a blue dial and comes on a stainless steel bracelet. Plan to spend around 560 USD on a new timepiece. The black dial model, the ref. T137.407.11.051.00, will cost you a little more.

If you like the feel of a leather strap on your wrist, take a look at the references T137.407.16.051.00 and T137.407.16.041.00. The first model has a black dial and matching black alligator-style cowhide, while these elements are blue on the second reference. These two models come in at slightly less than the stainless steel versions.

The most extravagant models among the automatic PRX three-hand watches are the reference numbers T931.407.41.041.00 and T931.407.41.291.00. Both versions are paired with a stainless steel bracelet and feature a fluted bezel crafted from 18-karat rose gold. The dial has an elegant sunburst pattern. The dial on the former reference is blue, while the ref. T931.407.41.291.00 sports a brown dial. You can expect prices for these PRX timepieces in mint condition to come in at around the 1,700 USD mark.

About the PRX Chronographs

In early 2022, Tissot unveiled their PRX chronograph models. Like their three-hand counterparts, the chronographs transport the retro 70s look into the modern day. There are two versions available: one with a blue dial and one with a silver. The 42-mm case and integrated bracelet on both models are made of brushed stainless steel.

The ETA caliber A05.H31 powers these timepieces. This movement is based on the Valjoux 7753 and offers a power reserve of 60 hours. The dial design is similar to that on the three-hand models, but, as a chronograph, features three subdials: the 30-minute counter is located at 3, the 12-hour counter at 6, and the small seconds at 9 o'clock. Tissot also retained the date display, opting to give it a rather unconventional home between 4 and 5 o'clock. You can operate the watch easily via the two angular chronograph pushers on the right-hand side of the case. These timepieces have a display case back, which means you can witness the movement ticking away inside.

The ref. T137.427.11.011.00 flaunts a silver dial, while the ref. T137.427.11.041.00 has a blue dial. At the time of writing in March 2022, there were no listings for these watches on Chrono24. Tissot lists their PRX chronographs for 1,750 USD.
