In 1928, Jean-Léon Reutter developed the Atmos table clock. This clock obtains the mechanical energy to wind the mainspring from the smallest fluctuations in air pressure and temperature. A temperature change of 1 k (according to other information 2 k) is sufficient for an operating time of about 48 hours. The "Atmos" is still manufactured today by the Swiss watch company Jaeger-LeCoultre and is the official state gift of Switzerland.

The first, now very rare, Atmos watches with a mercury motor are now highly sought after among collectors. Jaeger-LeCoultre bought this patent at that time and developed it further. In the 1930s, the mercury engine was replaced by the nitrous oxide engine, which is still used today.
