Description

Patek Philippe Ref 3561 very rare vintage Calatrava with original factory fitted sapphire crystal back.
The 3561 is an extremely rare watch, some suggest that there were perhaps only 100 pieces ever made.
The watch was produced between 1968 and 1970. It is only the second watch produced by Patek Philippe with a sapphire crystal back, the first was model 3439/1, which I have never seen before.
The case maker of this unusual watch is Wenger who made some of Patek Philippes most important watch cases.
This watch would have been made in 1970, it is in scruffy but original condition. I am sure that if someone wanted the dial could be restored to perfect condition.
The watch has just received a full service by a Patek Philippe trained watchmaker and runs beautifully.
The movement is the stunning calibre 27-460 33 jewelled automatic. It was delivered to the USA as can be seen by the HOX import engraving on the balance cock.
I have ordered an extract from the Patek Philippe archives which should be with me any day now.
The case number and reference number are engraved by hand on the inside of the bezel of the case underneath the back.
The clasp is a much later folding Patek Philippe gold clasp.
Overall, this is an extremely rare watch which highlights one of Patek Philippes most attractive movements. I in the past seen one or two Ref 3445 Calatrava’s which have had special crystal backs made for them to show off the movement. Up until recently I was unaware that this model existed, I suppose that is part of the fun of what we do.
