While the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore ref. 26170ST and the Hublot Classic Fusionref. 525.CM.0170.CM may share many characteristics, they are two very distinct timepieces. To start, the images of these two brands are miles apart. Some might argue that these watches aren’t comparable, but we’ve gone ahead and done it anyway!
Both models appeal to watch enthusiasts who value robust sports chronographs and unconventional materials. Audemars Piguet developed the first Royal Oak Offshore in 1993. The Offshore is currently the second most popular watch among AP fans on Chrono24, behind none other than the “normal” Royal Oak. This watch’s wrist presence has certainly split the audience between those who love it and those who hate it, but at 42 mm, this version still sits comfortably on most wrists. Both the AP and Hublot have prominent screws on their bezels, giving the watches their large, robust looks. The Hublot, however, is even more eye-catching given its skeletonized dial and 45-mm black ceramic case. Hublot doesn’t do things by halves! The same can be said for many models in the Hublot catalog. In terms of design and authenticity, we’d say the Offshore takes the cake, but when it comes to technology and materials, the Classic Fusion is the winner. Would you agree?
